Check out our pilots
Ballybay
The acceleration of Nature-based Solutions' (NbS) uptake and integration often hinges not only on the tangible benefits derived from natural resources, but also on the recognition of intangible benefits, such as community well-being, with academic assessments of their value. This is what the pilot in the Ballybay catchment is about.
Bunker Bay
Due to industrialization and pollution, many waterways have deteriorated over time. This pilot project aims to restore and revive these waterways, ensuring they regain their ecological health and functionality. The objective is to employ Nature-based Solutions (NbS) to meet modern shipping demands while revitalizing ecosystems.
Gelderse Poort
The majestic Rhine river is a vital lifeline that meanders through multiple regions in North-West Europe. Nature-based Solutions (NbS) have proven to be a sustainable means of fending off challenges. This pilot project embarks on a mission to revolutionize river management with a large-scale integral, system based, and future-proof plan.
Hollyford
Hollyford is a village in County Tipperary, 20km west of the town of Thurles. The village is located in a valley of the Slieve Felim Mountains. The Hollyford pilot aims to determine the feasibility of managing flood risk with nature-based catchment solutions.
Lys
This pilot regards the redesign and reconstruction of wetlands or natural flood expansion areas in the upper Lys river Basin. Nearby Matringhem, the focus lies with flood risks prevention, biodiversity enhancement and recreational use. At the Therouanne location, emphasis will be on improved water retention, high value ecosystem restoration and recreation.
Nourishment Meuse
In order to facilitate the local biodiversity, a gravel nourishment will be performed. The nourishment will recreate a relatively shallow permanent flowing habitat with good oxygenated sediments facilitating the establishment of numerous macro-invertebrates, fish and aquatic macrophytes.
Rhine Meuse Estuary
The Rhine-Meuse Delta has been significantly impacted by human development. This pilot study aims to shed light on critical issues surrounding the restoration of ecological habitats in this area. The restoration of these habitats holds not only regional, but also international significance.
Rhone
Since the 1990’s, the Rhône River Restoration Programme has been supporting a large diversity of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) along its course of 520 km on the French territory. They aim to restore more natural fluvial processes (hydrological, morphological and ecological) and to improve the resilience of the Rhône fluvial socio-ecosystems.
Vesdre
During the 2021 floods in North-West Europe, the Vesdre was the most severely affected river in Belgium. Since then, several actions have been undertaken, which offer opportunities for promoting Nature-based Solutions (NbS). One of them is a masterplan for resilient spatial planning across the catchment.
Wantij
The neighbourhood De Staart in Dordrecht is half residential and half industrial and located besides a Natura 2000 area. This context creates an ambivalent living environment. There is a growing need for sustainable urban development and the preservation of natural environments.
