Since the summer of 2024, LAWPRO, OPW, and Tipperary County Council have been discussing the possibility of adding a new Irish pilot site to the ResiRiver project. Many parts are still to be commenced, but it is in the works. Here is an update on the progress so far.
Key objectives
Like every ResiRiver pilot site, the Tipperary pilot has defined a few key objectives. These are as follows:
- Identifying & mapping locations in the upstream catchment of Hollyford, Co. Tipperary that have the potential for the implementation of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for flood risk management.
- Designing NbS measures for implementation upstream of Hollyford, Co Tipperary to reduce flood risk, improve water quality and enhance biodiversity.
- Making recommendations for the implementation of NbS measures using the EIP Farming for Water programme.
- Carrying out an appraisal of the proposed NbS measures against standard OPW Minor Works Scheme (MWS) criteria.
- Making recommendations on criteria for future MWS criteria for NbS projects.
- Assisting Tipperary County Council in preparing an application for funding to implement NbS measures under the OPW MWS.
- Assisting Tipperary County Council in the procurement of Contractors and the oversight of construction work to deliver NbS measures for flood risk management.
